Justice for Asifa Bano

On behalf of the sisters of Delta Phi Omega Sorority, Incorporated, we stand in solidarity in the fight for justice for Asifa Bano. Asifa was an 8 year old Muslim girl who was killed by politicians in Kashmir in January. She was sedated for 3 days, raped and tortured by multiple men, then strangled. She was just an innocent child who was abducted while grazing her family’s horses in a meadow.

Details of this crime revealed it was fueled by religious and political tensions between her family’s tribe, and Indian Sunni Muslim group called the Bakarwal, and local Hindus. We live in a world that has progressed so successfully in finding equality for people, that this act of cruelty should not go unnoticed. We must raise our voices to seek justice for the innocent, and find other ways to settle disagreements. It is heartbreaking to see stories like these come out from a world that has been fighting to move past each other’s differences.

If you see something, say something. Those that have committed such hate crimes should not go unpunished. We must protect those we love regardless of their age, race, or orientation, because we don’t know who could be a victim of such behavior. We must spread the power of peace and find nonviolent resolutions to conflicts. We the sister of Delta Phi Omega seek #JusticeforAsifa.
